The Porsche 911 is a two-door, high performance sports car made by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany.
It was the flagship of the current line up of Porsche until the all new 918 hypercar was introduced.
First known as the 901, it was presented in October at the 1964 Paris Auto Salon. Immediately after, French car maker Peugeot objected to Porsche using any three digit number where the middle number was 0, having already sold many models with that scheme.
To avoid this issue, Porsche simply replaced the 0 with a 1, christening the 911.
Since its introduction in 1963, it has undergone continuous development, though the basic concept has remained little changed.
